Heat pumps

Warmth from the air around your home

An air-source heat pump moves heat from outside air into your home. Done properly, it heats your rooms and hot water without burning fuel on site — but it only works well when it is designed for your particular property.

Heat pump offer

A quality heat pump installation with £0 customer contribution

For qualifying homes, Grenie's selected package can be fully covered by the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant—meaning no customer contribution for the standard installation included in the offer.

Check whether your home qualifies

Subject to Boiler Upgrade Scheme eligibility, property suitability, survey, heat-loss calculation, technical design and approval by the appointed MCS-certified installer. The £0 contribution applies only where the agreed standard package and installation are fully covered by the available grant. Additional works, system upgrades or non-standard requirements may cost extra. Eligibility and a no-cost installation are not guaranteed.

What is included?

  • Selected air-source heat pump and controls
  • Standard installation included in the approved Grenie package
  • Design and installation through an appointed MCS-certified installer
  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme application managed by the installer

Typical standard package — final inclusions confirmed after survey.

When might I need to contribute?

Examples may include radiator changes, unusual electrical or plumbing work, difficult access, planning requirements, non-standard cylinder arrangements or other work identified during survey and design.

In simple terms

How an air-source heat pump works

There is no combustion and no flue. The unit outside collects heat from the air, a refrigeration cycle raises the temperature, and that heat is passed to your radiators, underfloor heating and hot-water cylinder.

Lower flow temperatures

Heat pumps work best running steadily at lower temperatures than a gas boiler, so radiators or pipework sometimes need adjusting.

Electricity, not fuel deliveries

The system runs on electricity, which is why the design, insulation and how you run the system all matter.

Hot water storage

Most installations include a hot-water cylinder, so space for one is part of the suitability assessment.

The journey

What the process looks like

  1. 1. Initial assessment

We talk through your property, your current heating, how you use your home and what you would like to change.

  2. 2. Survey and heat-loss calculation

Your selected installation partner surveys the property and calculates room-by-room heat loss to size the system properly.

  3. 3. System design

The partner designs the heat pump, cylinder, pipework and any emitter changes, and sets out what the work involves.

  4. 4. Installation and handover

The MCS-certified installer completes the work, commissions the system and shows you how to run it well.

Suitability

Is your property a good fit?

Not every home is ready for a heat pump straight away, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.

  • Somewhere sensible outside for the unit, with airflow and reasonable access
  • Space for a hot-water cylinder
  • Radiators or underfloor heating that can run at lower temperatures, or a plan to upgrade them
  • A reasonable standard of insulation and draught-proofing
  • An electrical supply that can accommodate the system

Boiler Upgrade Scheme support

Eligible homeowners in England and Wales may be able to receive support towards an air-source heat pump through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Any support is subject to the scheme rules in force at the time, property eligibility, a suitability assessment and installation by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant on your behalf. We cannot confirm eligibility in advance, and we never promise a free installation.

Grenie coordinates the introduction and helps keep things moving. Your selected installation partner is responsible for the contract, the technical design, the installation, compliance, warranties and certification.

Find out where you stand

Tell us a little about your property and we will explain your options honestly — including when a heat pump is not the right next step.
